ITALIAN GP: CORSI, MADE IN ITALY

The sun shines and temperatures are high on the Mugello hills, but the audience is inflamed by the breathtaking 125cc race, that was decided in the last final sprint within the span of just 0.036”. Simone Corsi sprinted home for the third time in six races on his RSA of the Jack&Jones WRB team, beating the reigning world champion Gabor Talmacsi, on his RSA of the Bancaja Aspar team, followed by Espargaro on his Derbi RSA.

The Italian GP proved to be a group race, as foreseen. Di Meglio started well and tried to outdistance the group which was very compact, with twelve riders competing for the first place. Terol, Di Meglio, Talmacsi and Andrea Iannone proved to be the most competitive alternatively taking the lead, while Espargaro and Corsi controlled the pace. In the last five laps the number of riders fighting for the first step of the podium dropped to seven with Cortese, Olive and Bradl who managed to outdistance their rivals. In the last three laps Corsi recovered positions and started to push the group. Smith took the lead in the last two laps,  exploiting the powerful engine of his  RSA, while Talmacsi pushed dangerously. At the beginning of the last lap, right at the end of the long stretch, Simone Corsi performed an amazing late breaking, passing from the fifth to the first place, pushing to the limit and exploiting his great talent on the fast corners of the Tuscan circuit. Espargaro and Talmacsi managed to keep up with him, exploiting Corsi’s wake at the end of the last corner.  The latter however, crossed the finishing line first, 0”019 before Talmacsi, by just half wheel, and 0”036 before Espargaro. Thanks to this victory Corsi regains the first position in the world stand together with Di Meglio, fourth today, with 87 points.

“It’s just amazing – said Corsi – winning here in Mugello before my public is un incredible emotion, it is a dream coming true, a dream that I had almost achieved last year with the third place. It has been a very hard-fought and tough race. I was not more competitive then the others, and I had to give my best. I gave 110% in the last lap, from the late breaking till the end of the corner, where I came out very fast and I did not allow my pursuers to exploit my wake. I sprinted home for the third time, it’s brilliant. I need to thank my team and Aprilia for the great job they did in the last races, during which we had encountered some problems. This victory. This victory is also theirs”.

“Congratulations to everyone – said Talmacsi – the race has been very tough and it was impossible to make strategies. We were too many and the situation continuously changed. I knew I had to us my experience, I came out of the last corner in the third position, and I tried to exploit the wakes. I managed to overtake Pol but not Simone. I am very happy, I have finally reached the same standards I had last year”.

Bradley Smith got the fifth position over Gadea and Terol who is now third in the world stand. Sandro Cortese is eighth, Bradl tenth, followed by Bonsey and Iannone, who was in difficulty in the second part of the race, after having performed a brilliant start. Redding and Ranseder are also in the top-fifteen. The wildcard Lorenzo Savadori is in the twenty-second position, while Vitali and Lamborghini are in the thirtieth and thirty-third positions respectively. Bianco and Webb fell while La calendola withdrew.
